My journal only goes back to 2002 but that really covers most of what I wanted. I spent most of my summers from the age of 6 until the age of 18ish in the pool. I took all the lessons available and was a master at Marco Polo. And then I probably spent a grand total of 30 minutes in the water over the next 44 years.
At the age of 62, I found the water again. I had been forcing myself to go to the gym across the street for all of 30 hated minutes every other day. I spent way more time thinking up excuses to avoid it than actually working out. And then one day - September 7, 2011 - I went to my first aqua fitness class. I loved being in the water. I gave up the gym. After about a year and a half, I was drawn into lap swimming. I took a lesson and figured out the ropes and gave it a go.
On August 9, 2013, I swam a mile for the first time and there was no turning back. The only thing standing in my way was pool availability. Finally, in 2015, I switched from the city pools to the gym and was able to swim any time I wanted. On June 3, of 2015, I started swimming every single day - at least a mile. I missed Christmas Day and New Year's Day and 3 days when my brother was here. Otherwise, I'm a daily swimmer now. On March 14, 2016, (first day of Pebble watch when I could actually track real time while I swam) I started swimming 2,000 yards every day and have kept that up ever since.
Thank you, LJ Archive!!!
Also while searching I looked up when Amira - my housecleaner - first cleaned my house.... 7 years ago this week! wow.
