Today is wonderfully gray and cool. I'm not a sun bunny by any stretch. It's a toss up as to whether I hate the heat more or the glare. To have neither is my great day.

I left for the pool too early which actually worked out fine. After an hour of swimming, it was just 9 am and knowing that the traffic would not yet be thinned out, I just kept swimming for about another 15 mins which worked out pretty perfectly. By the time I was showered and dressed I only hit one slow down coming home. I like going earlier a lot.

I started out in life as a newspaper reporter. I majored in it in college and had my head filled with what is now really really old school journalism. The kind where reporters never used words like tragic or heartfelt... they reported the facts and it was up to the audience to figure out how they felt. And news was digested from newspapers. Some from TV but only from 5 to 5:30 pm on weekdays.

News reporting today is a totally different animal. Hardly even related.

But, still - old school or new - this week has stretched reporting to a thin thread. As a reporter there was nothing more deadly than a slow news week. This week has been the very opposite. I wonder if it won't be part of a lesson plan for some journalism class (they still have those??) in the future. Really amazing. And there's still an afternoon to go on this coast.

But, here, in this house, we will be sewing. At least for a while.
