Thursday

My life these days is pretty much scheduled by my favorite swimming pool. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, they open for lap swimming at 6:30 am and it's way too great a swim to miss. The pool is full of people who are not frivolous about their swimming. The vibe is great. And at 8 am, I am sitting on my bed with my computer and my coffee with the whole day ahead of me haughtily secure in the knowledge that I have already swam a mile that day.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is no early morning swim. The pool opens for lap swimming at 11. So I sleep in and do errand running before but mostly after my swim as long as I am out in the middle of the day anyway.

It turns out the variety suits me pretty well. It gives me a pseudo structure that is comfortable. (On Saturdays, I go to a different pool and swim from 8:30-9:30 and on Sundays, none of the pools open early enough and most all are too crowded to be fun so I just skip the swim.)

I do love swimming so much. I love how the water feels, how stretching out for that next stroke feels, I love the hour of forced uninterrupted thinking time, I enjoy seeing my casual swim friends, and I love the sense of accomplishment. I swam every Summer until I was about 15. And then I skipped 50 years. I've never been the least athletic. I spent about 5 years dragging my ass to the gym on the days when I couldn't dig up an excuse not to and hating every minute of it. Finding swimming has been really such a joy and I'm so grateful. I love thinking of myself as 'a swimmer!'

Today I don't really have any errands unless I decide to get pizza for dinner... which I might. The Papa Murphy's is a couple of blocks from the pool.

Otherwise, it's just the usual day here. Oh, the tracking number says my special external battery for my phone will be here from England today - Thank you, Patrick!!!

Now I think I'll get up and get dressed and get some breakfast.
