Really really random

I had the best brunch with seattlejo this morning.  Amazing food and wonderful wonderful company.

Something I read the other day reminded me that even though 64 isn't that old, I was an adult before a phone call morphed into a non-analog thing.  You used to call and if someone was home they answered.  If not, they didn't.  If they were on the phone you got a busy signal.  Sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring was a real thing. It was shockingly straightforward.

Save the Date cards for weddings had not been invented yet and if they had been they would have been considered very rude.  If you knew the bride and groom, they told you the date.  If you didn't you wouldn't be invited anyway (that would be considered 'gift asking').

I had cream colored cards with matching envelopes mostly for replying to wedding invitations.  Wedding invitations were engraved (not printed) and the reply was a precise formula.  There was no Plus One-ing.

Everything was done an exact certain way or else.  And the Or Else was not pretty.  Somehow I escaped.  Somehow I figured out that there could be a rich, full life beyond Or Else.

All this brings me to a song - yep - that I cannot stop listening to.  It's called Follow Your Arrow.

If you save yourself for marriage
You're a bore
If you don't save yourself for marriage
You're a whore-able person
If you won't have a drink
Then you're a prude
But they'll call you a drunk
As soon as you down the first one

If you can't lose the weight
Then you're just fat
But if you lose too much
Then you're on crack
You're damned if you do
And you're damned if you don't
So you might as well just do
Whatever you want
So

Make lots of noise
And kiss lots of boys
Or kiss lots of girls
If that's something you're into
When the straight and narrow
Gets a little too straight
Roll up a joint, or don't
Just follow your arrow
Wherever it points, yeah
Follow your arrow
Wherever it points
Yeah

If you don't go to church
You'll go to hell
If you're the first one
On the front row
You're self-righteous
Son of a-
Can't win for losing
You just disappoint 'em
Just 'cause you can't beat 'em
Don't mean you should join 'em

So make lots of noise
And kiss lots of boys
Or kiss lots of girls
If that's something you're into
When the straight and narrow
Gets a little too straight
Roll up a joint, or don't
Just follow your arrow
Wherever it points, yeah
Follow your arrow
Wherever it points

Say what you feel
Love who you love
'Cause you just get
So many trips 'round the sun
Yeah, you only
Only live once

So make lots of noise
And kiss lots of boys
Or kiss lots of girls
If that's something you're into
When the straight and narrow
Gets a little too straight
Roll up a joint, or don't
Just follow your arrow
Wherever it points, yeah
Follow your arrow
Wherever it points
