April 8th, 2021

I got into bed last night at my usual time and, per normal, fired up my silly game and my audiobook. I usually entertain myself with both for about an hour. Last night I lasted 15 minutes. And then I slept 9 hours. I was tired. And sore. Today I feel perfectly fine.

I have spent 70+ years mostly not doing anything to prolong my life. I've always hated exercise. When I was younger I took the stairs instead of elevators because I was in a hurry. I walked instead of the bus sometimes for the same reason but, I was never a runner. I didn't do yoga. I dieted to lose weight and more often than not just starved myself. I've never been a fan of vegetables. Once I got old and no longer in a hurry, I gave up the stairs and the walking and the dieting and now I am fat and out of shape and old. And, I'm honestly ok with all of that. It's a price I pay for years of neglect and it's a fair price.

Next time I go to the ballpark, I'll go on my scooter. I'll keep up the treadmill in the mornings because now it is just habit and I know it pays off and I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I'm fairly sure I could regain some physical strength and stamina and maybe even without the pain in my hips but it would take far more work than I'm interested in doing. So things are the way they are. I'm not unhappy about it. Just realistic.

The Nest Hub is going back to Google. I don't need THAT much sleep monitoring and it simply refuses to do stuff that Alexa does easily and happily. I like the Google music options better but I don't even listen to music enough to justify that. So back it goes. Like the order/shipping/delivery improvements that the Google Store has made, they have also streamlined the return options greatly. This is all very good info to have. I have avoided ordering from them in the past. Now I have a new buying option!

Other than packaging that up and leaving it downstairs for the postal carrier, I'll be doing not much at all. The baseball game is on TV at 1 which is weird because it's in Minnesota so two hours later. Weekday game that starts at 3? Whatever. I have two fun yarn projects going - one knit and one crochet. And nowhere I need to go. And a clean house. All under a very watchful eye...

Birthday Answers

(For my birthday, I asked for Ask Me Anything Questions. I got so many wonderful ones. I'm answering them in entries from here until I get to the end. If you think of something you want to ask, just leave a comment or a note. Deadline is totally not a thing.)

laciann asks:

* What quality did your ex-husband have that caused you to fall in love with him?

That’s a trick question, I think. He was a nice guy and a good writer. I’m pretty sure, however, I never fell in love with him. I fell in like. We wanted to live together for financial reasons mostly. He refused to ‘live in sin’ because his parents would be too disappointed in him. (He was 52 fucking years old forcryingoutload. One of many red flags that I ignored.) Also we had this bakery in town that made the best wedding cake. I should have bought the cake and skipped the wedding.

I clearly put zero thought into the whole thing. It was not my best move by a long shot. I knew within hours of our wedding that I had made a terrible mistake. To this day, I cannot fathom why in the world I did that.

What a negative spin I put on such a positive question! yikes.

The Friday Five for 9 April 2021

1) Do you like to drive?

No, not really. I appreciate having the option but it's an easy way to get from here to there. I'm not that interested in the journey.

2) Do you own (or have regular use of) a car? What kind is it?

I have the most adorable matte lime-ish green 2013 Smart Car. I bought it new. I was going to upgrade to a new one in 2016 but then they changed the design and made it bigger and NFW. So I will drive this one until it dies which I hope is never. The only time I don't love it is when I have two people visiting from out of town and need to squire them around. It's a PIA to rent another car but an even bigger PIA to find some place to stash mine when I do.

3) What is your favorite optional feature on a car?

It's shortness. I can easily park anywhere. Plus it's just freakin' cute. I get smiles from pedestrians and drivers alike all the time.

4) How much does gasoline currently cost where you live?

I have no idea. I've only bought gas a couple of times in the last year and it's never more than $30 bucks to fill the tank (but the tank is never empty). Generally, though, gas here in Seattle, WA is more expensive than the rest of the country and a freakin' bargain to most people who visit from outside the country.

5) What is the longest car trip you have taken?

Probably a trip in the mid-80's from Rochester, MN to Central City, CO.
