what? sorry, can't hear you

I managed to get water stuck in my ear this morning. Usually I don't and when I do, I can shake it out or in extreme cases, I can vibrate it out with the ass end of an electric toothbrush. But, this morning, nothing's working. And it's annoying. But, probably not fatal.

Seattle is blanketed by smoke this morning. It's really bad. Probably the worst I've seen. It's likely not as bad as it looks but it looks apocalyptic. I did not see it on the way to the pool because... dark but coming home, I rolled the windows up and turned on the air conditioning. I'm not going outside today and I'm leaving the doors (my only portal to outside is the sliders to the terrace) firmly closed.

I do have incoming, though. The countertop people are coming today to check on where the bullnosed edge is pulling away from the top. They will be here at 10. I thought about clearing everything off the counter but then decided that they might need to see what my everyday set up looks like to help determine the cause so that the fix can be more permanent.

hmmmmm. I just got a text from USPS that my package will arrive today. Except. I didn't order anything that is scheduled to arrive today. That I remember. Interesting. The suspense won't be a killer, though. The mail carrier is usually here by about noon on Tuesdays.

Outside of the countertop adventures, today I think I'll spend some time with the sewing patterns I have. I keep buying more when what I really need to do is cull the ones I have and make sure they all fit perfectly then I can just use the for variations.

I had a major sewing fail yesterday. It was a new pattern that so did not work. It was fleece so pretty easy to rescue usable scraps. I can always use fleece scraps. But, really, it's so hard to get interested in fleece when it's still so hot outside.

Just good

So the laminate place sent me an email saying they would be late which was good cause they really were.

I used the time to start my pattern organization. 3 patterns in, I hit one that I'm pretty sure I never actually made. I taped all the pattern pieces together but didn't actually get around to making the top out of cloth. So... let's give it a go.

I measured it carefully to ensure it would clear my giant ass and the sleeves would fit around my major guns. Lately my arms have gotten so fat. I would say that it's because of swimming but... we're not talking muscle here, we're talking old lady flab so probably it's more due to eating than swimming. Once I got the pattern all altered, I started the fabric. I'm trying out a couple of new techniques that I've seen lately (mainly on Instagram which has turned into a major sewing resource for me). I got most of the shirt done and could easily finish it this afternoon but no need. It will wait.

I got interrupted by the laminate guys. One was one of the ones who did the initial installation and the other was a new guy. They could not have been nicer. They studied the problem for a while actually and discussed it. They thought maybe they should wait until they could order more of the bull nose edge in case, in the fix, they broke what was there. But, finally, they decided to try the fix and see how it went. It went perfectly. And they left the whole kitchen cleaner than they found it. At no charge.

Nice. So nice.

Outside is so gross. The air is just heavy with junk. The laminate guys said that it's worse this afternoon than it was this morning. I'm so glad I don't have to go anywhere. Zoey's voting for TV and yarn work this afternoon and I'm good with that.

I'm really looking forward to the baseball game tonight. One of our best players has been out for an 80 game drug violation suspension (which was stupid on his part but, hey, he's such a great player and fun guy and has such a great smile) is coming back tonight. We'll still probably lose because we are playing Oakland and they have lost the ability to lose but it will be nice to see Cano swing the bat again.
