Launch day

I actually have stuff happening this week. Not normal busy people stuff. But retired person who never does shit stuff. Not today. Today is rest up for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow is lab work. The stress of having enough pee to fill the cup. The stress of whether the blood person can find a vein somewhere that is not the back of my hand (cause they always miss and hit a OHMYGOD THAT HURTS spot). And then the stress of if this is the year my doctor wins and I finally cross that prediabetic line to Never Eat What You Want Again line.

On the up side, the lab opens at 6:30 so I can pop in on the way home from the pool and, thanks for the future, I'll have the results back by cocktail hour.

Wednesday is house cleaner day and Goodwill day and grocery day and library pick up day.

Thursday is my annual doctor checkup which, if the labs do NOT declare me a diabetic, will be a breeze. He'll sign my wellness forms so I can get Amazon gift cards from my stupid insurance programs - two of them 1 gives me $25 for the visit and the other gives me half of that. Health insurance in this country is just fucked up. Anyway... He'll tell me to lose a few pounds and we'll promise to see each other again next year. kiss kiss.

Thursday night is a Diamond Club baseball game. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect. I'm hoping to break my losing streak.

Friday is so far blank, calendar wise. I'll need the rest after all the previous days' excitement.

I wore my new swimsuit today and it was a fail. The fabric I used for the lining was bad. I kind of knew it at the time but thot I'd take a chance. While I was swimming in it this morning, I figured out that I could just cut the lining out. The suit would still work. It won't last as long but it will last longer than just throwing it out. I need to wait until it dries though for surgery.

I got a text from UPS while I was swimming that my sandals from Zappos won't be here today after all - they have been rescheduled for tomorrow. No biggie. Just now, I got a text from UPS that my sandals have been rescheduled and will be here today. Also no biggie.

Right now, I'm going over to the PC and root an old Nexus 7 tablet. I've never done an android root before. This thing is a brick as is so if I fuck it up, no biggie. Should be an interesting adventure.

I think it needs a little musical accompaniment. Alexa, can you help with that?

I've lost my tablet mind

I enjoy my Android tablets and have a bunch* but always seem to need/want more. I have a very functional Nexus 7 and found another online for dirt cheap so I bought it. But, discovered that it does not upgrade well. The new version on Android makes it so slow it's unusable.

This morning I rooted it so that I could install the old operating system on it. It was a really dicey proposition and I had no idea what I was doing. The recipe I was following was also old and there were more than a handful of weird messages. Finally it ended up in a state that looked like it was unrecoverable. I clicked on a few random things and one of them turned out to be Android Narcan because it not only sprang to life, it sprang with the operating system I was trying to install!

So it's working but who knows for how long.

I was on a giant cheap Amazon Fire kick for a while and once you get them set up the way you want and don't ask for much, they work pretty well. For instance, I have one of them ($30) installed above the sewing machine. I use it to watch videos and podcasts (audio and video) and it works great.

But, they are dogs when it comes to doing other simple things like surfing for stuff. And they hate Google.

So, yesterday I found and ordered up a 10" Lenovo tablet that was too cheap to believe. I figured it was a dud and I'd be sending it back. Minutes after I finished the above root, I got the text that the Lenovo was here.

Long story short, the Lenovo is VERY EXCELLENT! If anyone is needing a nice, large tablet right now and wants Android, this is an amazing deal. $170. Bit, pretty and really snappy. I can't send it back.

Hopefully, old tablet lady won't adopt the negative cache of old cat lady.

*So what the hell do you do with them all??? Well, in addition to watching stuff in the sewing room... I also have another one in there for displaying pattern instructions and looking up sewing stuff. I have one in the bedroom that I use to play games on while I listen to my audio books before I go to sleep every night. I have one (of the cheapo Amazon's) in the bathroom - not proud but it does come in handy. I have one in the kitchen for reference and when I want to keep instructions open. In the living room, I have one on the dining table that I use to read Kindle books and magazines while I eat. I have one by my chair with a continual backgammon game on it. And another one by my chair for knitting and crochet instructions. And when both of those are busy, there's a really old cheap Amazon one that I use cast the condo's next cams. Could I consolidate/share? Sure. But, I don't wanna.

Reversing the trend...

The sandals from Zappos arrived and none of them came close to being acceptable. They are all boxed up now with prepaid labels and are sitting in the UPS OUT box downstairs waiting for pickup. I'm no only saving a ton o' cash, I think I'm over my sandal panic. I have at least two good years with my backup pair so no biggie.

I also got my subscribe and save box from Amazon - coffee, deodorant, chapstick, cat food and kleenex. I got it all put away and the boxes flattened and down to the dumpsters.

Everything is under control. I have a new recipe chicken dish planned for dinner. No baseball today. Lots of other stuff to watch and yarn work to do. A nice day.
