Swimming pool lab

I've always enjoyed using my swim time to noodle out things. But, now that I have the nice lady telling me how long I've been swimming every 10 minutes, I don't need to stop to check the time. I now have 1 hour of continuous think time. It's pretty fun.

This morning I used it to design and plan my new swim robe. I am going to refuse delivery of the one that Roman's won't cancel and probably won't send til next week anyway. I figured out, this morning, how to make it with supplies on hand. So. Free. The only show stopper was that I needed a neck-to-mid-shin separating zipper. Swim swim swim... Oh, wait! I have one. I'll just rip the zipper out of the robe I am retiring!! It's the perfect length and works great.

So that's what I'll be doing today. Making a new robe to wear to the pool where I will be swimming and dreaming up more things to make... it's a cycle. I will note that the heavy duty thinking I did this morning did slow me down. My pace which yesterday was 3 minutes and 15 seconds per 100 yards (which is not even my best), today was 3 minutes 19 seconds. Oh well, there's still time before the next Summer Olympics.

I think my brother's chicken has died. She got attacked by a dog a week and a half ago and has been in the chicken hospital. He cozied her in a box with creature comforts inside their house (bathroom). She was doing well. Really well. He put a camera so I could keep an eye on her. But, this morning, she's not in the box. I'm waiting to hear what happened. I still kind of hope that maybe she got put back into the yard with the others.

They are doing a flood test of my ceiling leaks this morning at 9. The worst leaks now show up on my sliding glass door. I washed it yesterday so I could easily tell new leaks. Hopefully there will be none.

CHICKEN UPDATE!! I just got an email from my brother. The chicken isn't dead, she just checked herself out of the chicken hospital. AMA. She jumped out of the box! She's out of camera range in the bathroom somewhere. My brother and his wife are on their way home from a road trip. They'll be back this afternoon and be able to deal with her directly.

I think I'll go get dressed so I can start taking the zipper out of this robe I'm wearing now.

Done!

I looked around for a pattern for a long zippered hoodie-ish kind of thing and couldn't find one yesterday but this morning's swim convinced me that I didn't need one and I was right.

I did use a whole lotta trial and error. I must have placed those pockets/tried it on/replaced pockets/tried it on a million times. But I love the result.

I thought I was going to have to two tone it but turns out for some really odd reason, I had 5 yards of navy blue fleece. I think maybe it was a Goodwill find. But anyway. Perfect. The zipper was turquoise so I decided to top the pockets off with scraps that made the turquoise look not so alone.

The pockets are big and deep enough (it's predecessor as well as the one on order had stupid shallow pockets not good for anything). And it has a lovely big loop in the back at the collar for hanging on the bathroom door between wearings.

Best of all, it's not stained or ratty looking like the one that donated the zipper. I'm quite jazzed about it. Both the kitchen counter (where I cut stuff out) and the sewing room are a mess but I'm going to leave them and go take a walk around the block. My tracker needs it.

The home owners association meeting is tonight. Oh and the flood test was called on account of rain that was predicted and didn't happen. Rescheduled for Wednesday.

The chicken is all over that bathroom. What a mess that's going to be to clean up. Turns out my brother and his wife aren't going home until tomorrow so he had someone cut a nice a-frame portal intp the hospital so she can wine and dine.
