My tweets

503 nostalgia

Years and years ago, Live Journal used to go down routinely. Once Twitter came along, when Live Journal went down Twitter would light up like a Christmas tree. One year, I remember, it seemed that Live Journal went down every Sunday for a couple of months.

And then, it stopped. Brief outages happen maybe once every 6 months or so. Then, this week, we get two or, since I'm able to write this, one.five. Since I can get to the home page and other pages - just not any journals or friends pages - I got the idea to download the phone app and try that... voila! No problem there. Interesting. And, of course, Twitter is virtually silent about Life Journal...

I have been writing and reading on Live Journal since 2002. The journal writing part has gotten better and better and better. The reading the journals of other has, since there are so few 'others' these days not kept up. But, it is still an integral part of every one of my days. I hope it's fixed soon.

It was cool enough yesterday and last night to leave the door to the terrace open. It's been a while since I've heard outside sounds from my bedroom at night and in the morning. Today is supposed to be even cooler. Nice. So nice.

This morning, I'm planning on checking out the West Seattle festival. It doesn't start until 10. So I really don't want to start my hour+ swim much before 8:30ish. I'm killing time, having some cereal and internetting until time to go.

The festival is only about 3 blocks from the gym so I can leave my car in the gym parking lot but... the 3 blocks are all uphill. I'm worried that I won't be able to make it up the 3 blocks. I think it's worth a try. If I can get up there, the festival is on flat land and getting back to the car will be downhill.

There is another festival going on in the International District. I may check it out tomorrow. Having this cooler weather makes way more possible.

The pool was full - a swimmer in each lane - when I got there. I picked the guy who kind of looked the most willing to share and joined in. People came and went while I swam but the last guy got out right when I did.

I got my shower and got dressed and stowed my stuff in the car and headed up the hill. The pool windows were on my way and I looked in. 2 people swimming by then.

I made it up the hill without much trouble after all. I had to stop once but that was really to look up something on my phone. I was in pretty good shape all the way. The festival took up 4 long city blocks and I walked them all. It was early so not a lot of people yet and vendors were ready to pounce on anyone who slowed down but the stuff was interesting. I was tempted to buy a couple of things but didn't, apparently, have on my spendy pants so kept on walking.

At one point my fitness band that vibrates went off like mad and my phone then started with the notifications... I hit my goals for the day and everybody on my wrist and in my pocket was having a little party! It cracked me up.

Between the festival and the gym is a grocery store so I stopped in there to get some water and ended up wandering around enjoying the air conditioning. Outside it is not hot but is a little muggy. Could be way worse so I am not complaining at all.

Then I hiked down the hill to my car and came home. I'm impressed and delighted that I was able to walk that far and that long without stopping. Tomorrow, I intend to replicate the experience over in the international district at their festival.

But, for now, my feet are up for a bit of a rest.
