Sunday er no, Wednesday

Christmas week didn't screw me up day wize but New Years Day is sure doing a number on my brain.  I keep thinking it's Sunday... either Sunday as in last Sunday - a week before my trip or next Sunday - the day before my trip.  I'm exhausted and it's not yet noon!!

Doesn't help much that I went to Sunday brunch today... Wednesday.  I found an article that had a list of places open for brunch today and found one I'd not tried in a neighborhood I rarely visit that is easy to get to from here so off I went.  Easy parking, cute place nice, and warm and comforting inside.  Nice table with good light and plenty of room.  Often, when I'm in a new place for breakfast, if nothing smacks at me from the menu, I go for 2 eggs over easy, bacon, hashbrowns and toast.  It never ceases to amaze me how this simple meal can vary so widely in taste.  Today, unfortunately, it varied widely on the tasteless end of the spectrum.  It wasn't offensive in any way, just kind of tasteless.  The service was good.

But, the silverware was horrid. It felt really chinsy in my mouth.  Once, I went back to a place who's food and ambiance were just ok but who's silverware was elegant - elegant to hold and elegant in my mouth.  I found out the make and model and tried to go buy some only to find out it's high end restaurant ware and only available in service for 50.  Sigh.

I can now check that place off my list (Hudson in Georgetown).  No harm, no foul.

My neighbor across the way is, I think,  gay (sweet looking bear) man about 50ish who lives alone.  He got in very late last night and slept in this morning and now, I see, he has company.  Company hasn't gotten dressed yet.  Floor to ceiling windows, dude.  Ok, now neighbor is making breakfast and company is getting dressed.  I hope they had a great New Years Eve.  I've really grown quite fond of neighbor.

I think I have everything totally gathered and ready for Las Vegas.  I have plenty of room even in my tiny suitcase so I think I am going to add the spare pare of shoes.  I've been feeling really good and might not even use the scooter I rented. Or maybe will use it some but not all of the time.  The weird thing about my lungs and how they make me feel is that I generally don't find out I'm having a bad lung day until I try to do something.  Like I'll be fine until I get into the middle of Costco and then bam, I feel like everything takes too much effort.

Last year, one day, we decided to walk to our hotel (the Wynn) from the convention center.  It is, really only a few blocks - a little less than a mile.  And it nearly killed me.  It took us way too long because I kept having to stop to breathe.  I don't want to do that again.

Anyway, I'm pretty ready.  I leave Monday morning bright and early. I'm ready.

Oh! I just realized that today is bear photo day and tomorrow is bear delivery day!  Yikes. I sure let that one nearly slip by.  Better go get the deed done.

And now I have conquered re-heating pizza

I sprayed the bottom of my large frying pan with PAM and then set three slices on top of the PAM and cooked it (covered) on 3 on my induction cooktop thingie while I got the oven broiler going.  After about 5 minutes, I took off the cover and stuck the pan under the broiler for another 4 minutes.  PERFECT!  Heated nicely and crunchy crust. I am proud.

I made lists.  And then put all these items on my calendar.

  • get cash for trip this week

  • cancel hbo and showtime in Jan.

  • make max contribution to health savings account for tax purposes in February

  • note when real estate tax bill comes in february, that hsa money will cover so don't pay

  • call to get it all out in March ($50 fee waived if reason is medicare which it will be)

I still think it's one Sunday or the other.  Bear neighbor still has his friend over.  I'm taking this to mean they had a lovely day. At least I hope so.

At the risk of sounding curmudgeon-y and not to make light of those who enjoyed theirs bunches, but I'm ready for the holidays to be over.
