https - go AWAY!!!

  • May. 12th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
I have the oddest problem on my work machine that I cannot solve. It started last week and it's making me nuts.

When I am RAS'd in, I click on a link - say

http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/en/us/dynamic-data-centers.aspx

And it automagically changes the http to https and throws me into an error page

https://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/systemcenter/en/us/dynamic-data-centers.aspx

Oh, and if I click once, it goes to the error, but if I go back and click on the same fucking link, it goes to the correct page error free.

I've tweaked security settings, proxy settings, advanced settings and Travis' tail. Nothing helps. I tried leaving it alone for the weekend to see if it would cometojesus and no. I've rebooted, cleared cache, held my breath and sworn oaths.

And I can't figure out a good search string to google for help.

I'm hoping that by writing this entry, the damn thing will understand and fix itself.

Edit: I finally broke down and called help desk. My help desk guy was completely buffaloed but he was a good one so I let him reset everything and so far so good...

I really surprised that grabbing the cat's tail didn't fix the problem.

I was too, at first. But apparently the resident repair tail belongs to Betty.

Something tells me Betty won't like it if Susan's system completely crashes.

True dat! She does not do manual labor - or even like to be in the same room with it.

I googled it, and couldn't find a solution per se, but found this; maybe you can "reverse engineer" it? http://www.issociate.de/board/goto/940095/redirect_http_to_https_for_all_websites.html

It gives a KB number, but I can't find the article anywhere.

Have you tried posting on a Microsoft newsgroup? I've always found help there. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/y925vx

I ended up calling the corporate help desk since it only happens on the corporate network and got it all fixed. Actually should have called them last week but they are so hit and miss. When they are good (like today) they are very very good and when they are bad, they can eat up your whole day with stupid stuff.

I always forget about the Microsoft newsgroups! Doh! Thank for the reminder.
