The Third Thing

  • Jan. 18th, 2007 at 12:37 PM
I just realized that my American Express card has gone missing. (I love the express 'gone missing'. It's so much nicer than the culpable 'I lost it'. It's the stupid card's fault, not mine. It has gone missing!)

I used it Sunday at Costco and it might be in the car. No one else has used it. It's a Costco card so at least it has my picture on it.

Fuck. I'll check the car later. It's not one I use much - really, mostly just Costco. But still, Fuck.

This happens to me more than I care to admit, usually because the way Costco holds onto the membership/AmEx card until they hand your receipt. I can't put the receipt away, because the door police will want to inspect it, so it gets put into my pocket, where it eventually endures all three cycles of the washer.

Exactly!!! I can usually find it in my pockets but not today. On the up side, as long as I had the dirty clothes out going through them, I did a load of laundry.

And also when they replace it, they just slap the same photo on the back and only change one number of the card number.

Of course, if I keep doing this, all the numbers will be changed eventually! ARUGH.

Focus. I need focus.

I like the Brit/Aussie version, "gone walkabout." Although instead of anthropomorphizing an inanimate object, I believe it is implying that the object had human help in getting itself lost.
